Location:
Kutum locality is located about (160) kilometers in the northwestern side of El Fasher city , the capital of North Darfur state, while Bredek and Anka villages are located about (60) kilometers north of Kutum locality.
Brief background:
On October 2, 2024, fierce battles took place between the Joint Force of Armed Movements and the Rapid Support Forces in the “Bir Mezzeh” area of Kutum locality, leaving losses on both sides. Since then, the RSF and allied militias have targeted civilians on ethnic and racial basis, committing forms of abuse, including killings, beatings and arrests, as well as burning villages.
Burning villages:
On 12 October 2024, the RSF and allied militias burned Bir Mezza, Danki and Diska villages, causing a massive displacement of civilians, mostly women and children. While most were displaced to the regions of Bridek and Anka, some crossed the border into Chad. From Wednesday, October 30, 2024, until Saturday, the second of November 2024, the Rapid Support Forces and allied militias launched attacks on the areas of Bridek and Anka and about (20) neighboring villages, killing more than (12) civilians and wounding more than (15) others, while arresting a number of young men, in addition to burning some villages completely, and looting livestock, markets, citizens' homes and properties, including the house of Anka village community leader. RSF destroyed the public institutions in the villages, including Anka hospital, Anka primary, intermediate and secondary schools, as well as the People's Court. According to sources in the area, the attackers used four-wheel drive vehicles, motorcycles, camels and horses. At the time of writing this report, the attack on the villages by the Rapid Support Forces and allied militias continues.
