The torrential rains and floods swept the Red Sea State in eastern Sudan, in which rains continued for three consecutive days from 4 to 6 August 2024, causing loss of life and property, and disrupting transport and trade. The floods cut off the road between the Red Sea and Nile River states, and also cut off the northern road of the Red Sea State linking Port Sudan and its northern localities (Halayeb locality and Jubait Al-Ma'aden), which is a commercial route leads to the localities adjacent to the Egyptian border, including the Sudanese locality of Halayeb. The floods also caused the sinking of some vehicles and public and private transportation, and led to the collapse of houses in the villages of Haya and Port Sudan localities, and to the displacement of a large number of families to relatively dry and safe areas, while large numbers of displaced people in the state were affected.
