December 2025 witnessed the continued and comprehensive deterioration of conditions in Sudan across the political, security, humanitarian, economic, social, health, and education sectors.
On the political and security fronts, the month was marked by a significant military escalation and shifts in control, most notably the RSF’s takeover of the SAF’s 22nd Division in the city of Babanusa, consolidating their control over the entirety of West Kordofan State.
Throughout December 2025, serious and recurrent human rights violations were documented, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, gender-based violence, organized looting, and the targeting of civilian objects.
At the same time, displacement from conflict-affected areas in Kordofan and Darfur continued toward states such as White Nile, Khartoum, El Gezira, and Kassala, leading to severe overcrowding in shelters and host households and a further deterioration in living conditions.
On the social level, tribal and political hate speech intensified, accompanied by rising community violence and criminal activity, while the role of civil society organizations in peacebuilding continued to decline. These dynamics unfolded alongside a deepening economic contraction.
