The war in Sudan, which has raged since mid-April 2023, entered the negotiation track early, as the first indirect negotiations between its parties were held in early May 2023, in the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with Saudi-American mediation, and resulted in an agreement that the two parties (the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces) did not abide by. Later, the renegade of agreements became the prominent feature of the subsequent rounds of negotiations, reinforcing Sudanese doubts that a peace agreement could be reached to end the war, unless influencers exert greater pressure on the warring parties to participate in inclusive negotiations, with clear mechanisms to monitor compliance with the agreed outputs.
